➖Establishment of Directorate of Medical Laboratory Service in Hospital Management Board as it was done for Ministry of Health
In a significant step towards resolving longstanding issues affecting Medical Laboratory Scientists and other health workers in the Bayelsa State Ministry of Health, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Bayelsa State Branch, paid a courtesy visit to the Head of Service, Bayelsa State. The meeting was a crucial milestone in the association's efforts to address key concerns and improve the welfare of its members.
During the visit, the association Chairman Sct Eunice Lelei Ayamaere, Director Osakwe Ebiye other members of the association engaged in productive discussions with the Head of Service Dr Ebiye Sawyer, focusing on the following critical issues:
1. *Reinstatement of Call Duty Allowance*: The association urged the Head of service to see to the reinstatement of the withdrawn Call Duty Allowance for Medical Laboratory Scientists in the Ministry of Health, recognizing the critical role they play in the healthcare system.
2. *Full Implementation of 25% Basic Salary*: The association emphasized the need for full and correct implementation of the 25% basic salary increment for both Ministry of Health and Hospital Management Board (HMB) Medical Laboratory Scientists, ensuring that all eligible members receive their full entitlements.
3. *Payment of Arrears*: The association requested the payment of arrears for the affected months, ensuring that members are compensated for the period they were denied their rightful allowances.
4. *Establishment of Directorate of Medical Laboratory Services*: The association also appealed for the facilitation of the amendment of relevant laws establishing the Bayelsa State Hospital Management Board to provide for the creation of a Directorate of Medical Laboratory Services. Emphasizing on the fact that the structure, already existing in the Ministry of Health in Bayelsa state, and was graciously approved by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, some years ago.
5. *Consequential Upward Adjustment*: Appeal for Consequential Upward adjustment of existing Medical Laboratory Scientists in the state from based on the recently Gazetted Circular placing the entry point of Medical Laboratory Scientists on CONHESS 9/2 (Grade Level 10/2).
The Head of Service Dr Sawyer Ebiye Wisdom expressed commitment to addressing these issues and assured the association of a prompt response. The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about the way forward.
The association looks forward to continued collaboration with the Head of Service and other relevant stakeholders to find lasting solutions to these issues and improve the working conditions of Medical Laboratory Scientists and other health workers in the state.
