PRESERVING THE LEGACY OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE PROFESSION IN BAYELSA STATE
As part of the activities commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Bayelsa State Branch (1996–2026), the Branch has produced a landmark historical publication titled:
A Legacy of Service, Leadership and Professional Advancement: A Historical Chronicle of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Bayelsa State Branch (1996–2026).
This commemorative publication chronicles the remarkable journey of AMLSN Bayelsa State Branch from its emergence following the creation of Bayelsa State in 1996 to its 30th Anniversary in 2026. The publication captures many of the Branch's landmark achievements, including the establishment of democratic governance, the creation of the Directorate of Medical Laboratory Science in the Bayelsa State Ministry of Health, advocacy for the Directorate within the Hospital Management Board, implementation of the Enhanced Entry Point (EEP) for Medical Laboratory Scientists, acquisition of land for a permanent Secretariat and establishment of a functional Secretariat, institutionalization of the Medical Laboratory Scientists' Week, Scientific Conference and Public Health Lecture, hosting of the first AMLSN National Conference in Bayelsa State, expansion of institutional chapters, promotion of quality assurance and anti-quackery initiatives, employment and internship advocacy, community medical outreaches, and the introduction of the Inter-University Medical Laboratory Science Quiz Competition to promote academic excellence among future Medical Laboratory Scientists.
Beyond documenting historical events, this publication preserves the institutional memory of AMLSN Bayelsa State Branch, honours the vision and sacrifices of its pioneers and past leaders, celebrates the collective achievements of its members, and provides an enduring reference for present and future generations of Medical Laboratory Scientists.
As AMLSN Bayelsa State Branch celebrates thirty years of excellence, this historical chronicle stands as a lasting testament to the Association's unwavering commitment to professionalism, quality healthcare, research, innovation, leadership, and service to humanity.
