The leadership of Association of Me
dical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Bayelsa State Branch, ably led by Chairman Sct Eunice Ayamaere Lelei, embarked on a twin mission focusing on special interventions for service delivery in medical laboratory practice and the general well-being of Association members. Additionally, they extended a special invitation to the Deputy Governor to be the keynote speaker at the forthcoming Medical Laboratory Scientists Week 2025.
Key Issues Highlighted by Sct Eunice Ayamaere
In her speech, Sct Eunice highlighted key issues affecting the Association's progress, including:
1. Recruitment and Welfare of Medical Laboratory Scientists: The need to recruit more qualified professionals to address staff shortages and ensure optimal laboratory services.
2. Provision of Modern Laboratory Equipment: The importance of state-of-the-art technology for accurate diagnosis and prompt medical intervention.
3. Capacity Building: Seeking government support for continuous professional development programs.
4. Policy and Regulation Support: Soliciting government partnership in enforcing laboratory practice regulations and eliminating quackery.
5. Unpaid Revised Call Duty Allowances: Requesting assistance in ensuring prompt payment of revised allowances approved by the Governor.
6. Non-Implementation of Department Approval at Hospital Management Board: Requesting intervention to facilitate full implementation and creation of the Directorate of HMB and provision of office space for the Department of Medical Laboratory Services.
7. Keynote Speaker Invitation: Extending an invitation to the Deputy Governor to speak at the Medical Laboratory Scientists Week 2025 (July 23-27, 2025).

The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, congratulated the AMLSN Executives and members on their recent election. He emphasized the state government's willingness to collaborate with the association to improve the health system, acknowledging its current weaknesses despite the huge efforts made by the Bayelsa State Government.

The Deputy Governor tasked the Director of Medical Laboratory Services Dir Assayomo Ebikabowei Seigi to explore purchasing new equipment for facilities in need.
