May 5th marks World Hygiene Day, a global initiative to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene in preventing illnesses, diseases and promoting public health. The day emphasizes the critical role of hand hygiene, sanitation, and cleanliness in healthcare settings, communities, and daily life.


As key stakeholders in the health sector we must:


1. Raise Awareness: We should Highlight the significance of hygiene practices in preventing infections and diseases.

2. Promote Best Practices: We should Encourage individuals, healthcare professionals, and communities to adopt proper hygiene habits.

3. Improve Health Outcomes: This can Reduce morbidity and mortality rates by preventing healthcare-associated infections and promoting a culture of cleanliness.


Importance of Hygiene:


1. Prevents Infections: Proper hygiene practices, such as handwashing and sanitation, can significantly reduce the spread of infections.

2. Saves Lives: Good hygiene can prevent millions of deaths worldwide, especially among vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.

3. Promotes Health: Hygiene practices contribute to overall health and well-being, reducing the burden on healthcare systems.


We call on all school, Churches, Workplaces, households, Hospital facilities, Laboratories to promote the integration of WASH ( Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) and waste management into our various health facility, proper use and disposal of hand gloves, and proper disposal of medical waste.


We must continue to remind ourselves that our safety and the safety of others in our environment is of utmost importance as that of our state and country at large
